NASCAR Miami Speedway - Homestead, FL

November 23, 2010

Wrapping up my Florida visit was thee last event, NASCAR Miami Speedway in Homestead, FL.  This was the last race of the season.  I had spent almost two weeks in Florida, with a few days in Chicago for the Bears game and then high school visits around the area, spanning from Fort Lauderdale to Miami.  The show car visits were fun, and NASCAR was not too bad.

Friday 19th of Nov - On this day we had over 500 kids from different areas in Miami come over for the YES panel.  There were pull up bars, push-up challenge, a team building exercise, various weapon systems, and Ryan Newman's #39 Race car.  I had the privilege of marching JROTC cadets from the entrance to our area, and over to the Strength and Action Zone.

Saturday and Sunday 20-21 Nov - These two days I was pretty much at the Strength and Action Zone for both days.  My job was the pull-up bars and the push-ups.  Everyone thinks that pull-ups are easy, but when I explain to them that the placement of their hands is the over-hand grip, it changes the situation.  I had one guy do 36 pull-ups to the standard.  Very impressive.  On Saturday there was a Q&A Session with Ryan Newman and I was in the middle of it, literally:

It was a great experience to be around other Soldiers, motivated civilians to d pull-ups or push-ups.  And like I have always said, give me effort, that is all I ask, is to try, even when you think you can't do it, put your mind to it and it will happen.

On Sunday, the last day of the event, the Strength and Action Zone was only open for a few hours, but same deal.  There were COI's in the area and also a few football players that are going to be at the All-American Bowl.  They have been selected to be in San Antonio.  I met one of them, and will be at the All-American Bowl in San Antonio, TX, defensive back for Dillard High School Wayne Lyons:

Well my time in Florida was fun.  The weather was awesome, and the people that I have met are some of the most professional folks I have met.  I was ready to leave Florida and go home and get ready for Thanksgiving with my family and friends.

That wraps up this blog.  Next up Corpus Christi, TX for some high school visits and future Soldier events.  So if you are in the area, grab your pt's and come over and enjoy some Army physical training!
