Show Car High School Visits 15-18 Nov - Miami, FL

November 18, 2010

Upon my return from Chicago, I had some show car visits with the #39 Ryan Newman Army Race car before the NASCAR Homestead main event from the 19-21 of Nov.  And this is how it went:

16 Nov: McFatter VoTech High School - Davie, FL

I linked up with SFC Riggs at McFatter VoTech and SFC Gay, the local Army Recruiter.  Same deal, engaging students and spearheading the push-up challenge.  The students had to spin the wheel to win some great Army prizes or come see me for some great Army physical fitness (push-ups, nuff said).  McFatter VoTech is a unique high school in which only certain kids get to come to this school.  It is because of the programs they have.  They have automobile mechanics, a nursing program, culinary arts (the chow as a matter of fact is made by the students), and once they graduate they have 100% job placement, wow!  You can't beat that with a stick, however, we talked to them and told them what the Army can offer as far as training, educational benefits, and leadership skills.

17 Nov:  Miami Dade Kendall College - Miami, FL

On Wednesday, SFC Riggs and myself linked up with CPT Williams, the Army ROTC instructor at Kendall College.  Based on my experience doing college fair events, it is a different environment when talking to college students than it is high school kids.  College students have set goals, but the Army can still offer some great benefits to help them achieve those goals.  CPT Williams was surprised to see so much support, from recruiters to a drill sergeant, Ryan Newman's #39 Army Race Car, to the H2 Hummer, and the Miami Dolphin Cheerleaders, what!  Okay, okay, I am a huge Chicago Bears fan, being from Chicago, and I know the Bears play the Dolphins today, Thursday the 18th, but what is a Bears fan to do?

The Solo shot! Sorry, the things I have to do for DSEP, lol!

Needless to say, GO Bears!!!!

18 Nov:  Sunset High School - Miami, FL

Today we headed out to Sunset High School, Home of the Knights.  Awesome atmosphere, the black and gold colors all over the campus.  Black and Gold, those look like Army colors, nice!  The crew and I, along with SSG Quiles, the local Army Recruiter, engaged over 300 students.  Spinning the wheel and see which prize you can get.  You know, all I ask is for students to try, just try, and some are amazed on what they can do.  Put forth the effort.  The thing that I like about High Schools is there JROTC.  I challenged them to ten push-ups, my way!  Check these pics out:

Group, ATTEN-SHUN!

Front lean and rest position, MOVE!

DOWN!

UP!  At the end, there were two left but only one winner!

This gentleman won the challenge.

Well that wraps up the visits, onto NASCAR Homestead at Miami Speedway, so if you are in the area, come check us out!
