My last and only post was 16 months ago. I had forgotten about it until I googled my own name and rediscovered it. I feel compelled to write for my own sake. After nine years of continuous war surgery, I have found it necessary to take a break. The Army has moved me to Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. Last week, I took part in a panel on Upper Extremity War Injuries at the American College of Surgeons’ Clinical Congress with some of my Army and civilian colleagues. I’m a hand surgeon at Walter Reed and my talk was on the reconstructive work I do on Soldiers’ arms and hands, including repairing bones and nerves.
