MSII: Fall Semester at a Glance

Filling in for then PSG after PRT Test.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been posting regular updates---this year, I hit the ground running with both school and work. My boss assigned me to coordinate the ’11 Forever Wired Conference (http://www.clarkson.edu/adk/) earlier this semester. Preparing for the conference was time consuming, but ultimately a success. With the help of volunteers, I planned the logistics for a 150 person conference that raised over $1,500 for a rural entrepreneurship scholarship fund.

Digressing from the ‘student’ segment of the blog, listed below are a few updates from my cadet activities at the Golden Knight Battalion (GKB).

Leadership Lab

Leadership lab has been fun this semester; most of the labs have been focused on learning battle drills including ambush, knock out a bunker, movement to contact & react to contact ect. We also had a rappelling lab this semester. One valuable lesson I learned was that the rappel tower seems a lot higher when standing at the top, then it does when looking from the bottom.

A tradition that has been ongoing for several years now is the GKB sitting at the back table at the ROBRO cafeteria for breakfast after PRT, and dinner after Lab. Pictured below is the GKB after lab.

We might need another table.
We also had an IMT (Individual Movement Techniques) lab this semester. This lab involved painting our faces ‘Rambo style,’ and crawling in the mud!

PT tests this semester have been going well, and my PT score has been steadily improving. Still far from the perfect 300 score, but working on it.
Unfortunately, I can never keep up with Cdt. Brosseau (in the white).
FTX (Field Training Exercise)

The GKB goes on a 3 day / 2 night FTX every fall semester. This year’s FTX included a road march, several iterations of day landnav, night landnav, STX lanes, and a Victory March. FTX is always fun at the beginning and the end. The training exercise as a whole is tiring, and occasionally miserable. All and all, it’s not too bad, it IS the ARMY.

I’ve also served as Color guard on a couple of occasions at D1 hockey games.

My semester is not completely over yet, this was just a glance thus far. I still have a 16 page paper on medical malpractice tort reform to write, and numerous exams and finals to take. All and all, I would say things are going well!
