And just like that, the summer is over. DC was a great time, my time at Fort Hood was great, and now I'm back at school. While at Fort Hood, I was shadowing the Platoon Leader in a 1st CAV armor platoon. It was a great experience and the platoon I was assigned to was awesome. It opened my eyes to a lot of things, answered a lot of questions I had about Army life, and really solidified the idea that this is what I wanted to do with my life. And now it's back to school. This week...read more

Just as soon as life goes up, it goes down. One week I'm rubbing elbows with Generals, Congressmen, and Jane Seymour, and the next week I'm curled up in my bed with my throat nearly swollen shut, just waiting for the world to end. I may be exaggerating a little. But just a little. Actually, no, not at all. Over the weekend, I came down with a killer sore throat that got so bad I couldn't swallow. I called in sick to work on Monday and finally went to the Doctor on Tuesday and...read more

  • Life in the Fast Lane

Life in DC has been exciting and full of opportunities so far. It started out slow (to say the least) as there were some issues getting my transportation and TDY pay lined up. And there have also been some issues getting clearances and computer access at work, so the bosses there encouraged me to go see interagency life and life inside the Beltway. To that end, I've tried to make the most of the myriad opportunities that abound here in the Capital. I've gotten to meet Chief of Staff...read more

And just like that, my ~two weeks at home comes to an end. I was supposed to fly out this morning, but last night I decided to change my ticket to Sunday instead. I'll have to leave around 0300 to catch my flight, but this last day has been good and worth it. Most of it was spent moving my parents and then packing up my room and packing my bags, but my oldest sister and her family was here so it was good to see that group of my nephews and a niece. Last night I was going through...read more

  • Graduation

On Friday night I got a call from one of my best friends and Model UN teammate at school. In a place where it is sometimes 'cool' to be cynical or apathetic, my buddy is not afraid to recognize what a significant responsibility we will be given upon graduation and everything he does at the Academy centers around becoming a better leader. He frequently keeps in mind the soldiers he will one day lead and he is very concerned with whether or not he'll be the best Platoon Leader that...read more

Finally got back home this week. Finished my last TEE last Thursday and stuck around Friday to move and have some final hang out time with some of my soon-graduating Firstie buddies. I had some flight delays but got back to Texas in time for my niece's birthday party. After that, it was off to a whirlwind week of high school visits. Normally during Grad Week (the week after TEE week), everyone stays at school to drill a lot and have lots of parades in preparation for the weekend's...read more

  • TEE Week winds down

    May 12, 2010

Nothing exciting here. I've been waiting for something exciting to write about, but I guess that's not necessarily the point of this blog. It's TEE (Term End Exams....aka finals) week here, so life is pretty chill except my company keeps having early formations for some reason... So far I've knocked out four TEE's (Russian, Physics, Stats, and International Relations) and have just one more left to go tomorrow (Comparative Politics). I'm pretty sad that I'll never...read more

  • Backtrack to Spring Break

I've been cramming for Russian (my first final) all morning, so I figure now is a good time to take a break and it's fitting to write about Ukraine. This is the first blog I intended to write when I created this blog: Last semester some time, I got selected - along with about 50 other Cadets - to participate in the 'Foreign Academy Exchange Program' over spring break. A pair Cadets were being sent to 26 countries - Mongolia, Greece, Germany, Ecuador, Brazil, Chile,...read more

Hello! I had definitely hoped to post on this substantially more than I have this semester (and by that I mean post at least once), but life and Murphy have kept me from doing so. When I finally had time to sit down and start this blog, my membership still hadn't been approved...when I finally got time a few weeks later, the site was under maintenance. I had time this morning and then my computer was having problems. And now that it got fixed, it's almost time for lunch...read more
