If you are DA Selected or Volunteer for Recruiting Duty, First let me wish you the best of luck and best wishes on your new adventure for being an Army Recruiter.  There will be good days as well as bad.  You need to have tough skin for this business and let ALOT of stuff go in 1 ear and out the other.  This is  one job in the Army that if you do everything the Chain of Command tells you to do and you give 100%, you could still fail.  But at the end of each day and month, if you knew deep in your heart and looked in the mirror that you gave 100% everyday morally, ethically and lived the Army Vaules, you have nothing to hang your head in shame for.  Like I tell my wife when I go into the office/community I have fun.  If you call it work then you have a job.  People in the community and over the phone will know if you are stressed and having a bad day, I always take a deep breath and make the next call or shake the next hand.

I volunteered to be a Recruiter almost 9 years ago.  I volunteered because I wanted to help people, tell my Army Strong and a challenging job.

Here are some good things in USAREC that has happened to me:

1)  Soldiers, who I have put in the Army, email/call every couple of month looking for advice & thanking me for telling them about the Army.

2) Parents & Teachers thank me for what I have done for their child/student.

3)  Built my own street legal 'Replica" Army Race car to drive everyday.

4)  Had Tony Schumacher at my re-enlistment ceremony

5)  Meet numerous Famous People & have been to some really cool events/places

I could go on for another 100 good things, but just showing the good side.  Yes there is a bad side, but thats all some people talk about.  Yes I have had a month or two where I didn't write a contract and took a Future Soldier loss.  But I don't quit.  When you first arrive to your Recruiting Station(RS), you need to ask your Station Commander what do you need to do to become the Top New Recruiter in USAREC and go for it.  Only one that can  stop you is you.  If you or any other Recruiter needs any help or advice, just email/call me.
