First Blog

June 28, 2010

This is my first blog ever.  I am new to this trend of tell the world all of your business, but this blog will be used to keep all of my family and friends in touch with me during my Army journey.  The first step in my Army career is to attend BOLC (Basic Officer Leadership Course) for all medical personnel.  This course will be conducted at the U.S. Army Medical Department and School located at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.  This is a 7 week course for all medical personnel physicians, physician assistants, nurses, veterinarians, podiatrist, etc...  After the 7 week course the specific branches will branch off and have 2-6 week course that is branch specific.  For nurses BOLC is 9 weeks which includes the 7 weeks with all medical personnel and then the 2 week nursing branch specific course.  After I complete BOLC I will PCS to Home of the Airborne Division Fort Bragg, NC where I will attend numerous courses such as residency, critical care course, and airborne.  This will be a difficult adventure and journey, but once completed will be one of my greatest accomplishments.  Please stay tuned.....

The first order of business would be are you a U.S. citizen and did you attend a U.S. nursing school? These are the two requirements to join the Army Nurse Corps. If the answer is yes to both questions then I would contact your local Army Healthcare Recruiter. If you have any more questions post them and I will try to answer. Good Luck!!

Cheryl, you can find a health care recruiter by going to the goarmy.com website and looking under the specialty jobs (health care is considered a special job like JAG or band players) then on the right hand side there should be a tab that says "find a (health care) recruiter". Hope that helps you!
