Orientation days are always the longest. We got a tour of the surrounding buildings on the Alaska University campus along with meeting most of the employees at the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center (ARSC). We had about an hour talk with the Chief Scientist at ARSC and based on our backgrounds we got assigned our projects for the next few weeks. I was assigned the task of finding a way to identify potential threats their computers from known and public compromises that are published on the internet. In all not a bad assignment but I really would have liked to have worked on that supercomputer.
