Cobras Continue to do Great Things in the AFG
April 29, 2011
First of all, I would like to apologize for taking so long to post. There is quite a bit to talk about, so I’ll limit this post to what the Cobras are doing throughout Afghanistan.
CPL Camero not only does a great job as a Brigade Medical LNO at Baghram, but he trained for and ran a marathon. Less than 10% of the American population can say they’ve done that and now he is one of them. Great job!
SPC Gillespie has been working with the Battalion S-4 and recently received a coin from MG Campbell for her outstanding performance. She was one of only five Soldiers in the Battalion to receive a coin.
Specialists Benvenuti, Clark, Heinemann, and Wagner have been supporting 6/4 Cav and 1/26 IN since we went to NTC. They have all been doing well and I get nothing but reports from their Commanders/First Sergeants.
SPC Fong has been helping Chaplain Spikes on Salerno. She helps to boost morale by running “The Chappie’s Store.” It is a place where Soldiers can pick up personal hygiene products, snacks, and other things. The best part, it’s all free.
When the Brigade needed a female medic to augment the Focused Targeting Force (FTF), PFC Hernandez (pictured about to enter the Chinook)answered the call. She’s doing very well with this special team and she loves being there. This photo was on the AKO login page!
Finally, we come to SPC Kling. He started off this tour being selected to work with the Brigade Surgeon by monitoring casualties and coordinating MEDEVAC throughout the Brigade Area of Operation. As if that wasn’t enough, he was asked to assist the Khost Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT). During his time there, he received the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal for treating and evacuating a casualty that had fallen over twenty feet off a cliff. Evacuation wasn’t easy. Since they were still near the top of the mountain, it required a helicopter to hoist him off the mountainside. Pics to follow!!!
This is just a taste of the great things the Cobras are doing here in Afghanistan. I promise to get better at keeping you updated and there is definitely more to follow.
