100 Black Men of America- Fort Lauderdale, FL (16-20 June 2010)
June 19, 2010
What a way to start the summer event tour! I just finished up my participation in the 100 Black Men of America . First off, the Army represented with a strong diverse population of Soldiers, NCOs and Officers. This event was one of the strongest networking and engaging events I have ever attended. I had the opportunity to engage and interact with Fortune 500 stakeholders, community and national leadership. The event commenced with an opening reception, various dinners and luncheons, workshops and finally a black tie awards dinner. One of the most memorable moments was when ARMY ROTC presented a $147,000.00 scholarship check to Mr. Jehan Ballacchino and family. Jehan (Jean) was presented the check at the Report of the Youth Breakfast from LTC Terry Love, (Professor of Military Science, Fort Valley State University) , along with Mr. Albert Dotson Jr., Chairman of The 100 Black Men Of America. This event was completely ran and showcased by the youth and mentees of the organization which highlighted their accomplishments and achievements. It was such a wonderful moment for his mother, Mrs. Dominique Ballacchino and father, Mr. Salvatore Ballacchino who were present and also recognized. We had a great and wonderful time and finished up by showcasing the "A Legacy of Service" exhibit highlighting African Americans and their contributions to the US Army. Additionally, Cadet Command introduced our new incoming Deputy Commanding General, COL Barrye Price, who hit the ground running and made a powerful impact with his presence. Our local recruting command team out of Miami was extremely instrumental with providing quality, knowledgeable, top-notch Recruiters...Thanks LTC Johnson & CSM Strobeck! All and all this was a great and exciting week...and it doesn't hurt to be in Fort Lauderdale!
Who would of thought that 10 years ago I would have the opportunity to have a job like this in the US Army!...not me. The Army is a sea of opportunity.
Congratulations again to the Ballacchino Family!
ARMY STRONG!
WE COMMISSION...WE MOTIVATE!
