Joining Army ROTC
September 28, 2010
There are many reasons why I joined Army ROTC. Serving my country was without a doubt the top reason for joining the program, I've wanted to serve ever since I was a little kid, however there are many other reasons why I enrolled in ROTC. The first of the other reasons is the fact that Army ROTC provides phenomenal financial support, not only is my tuition and room/ board covered, but I receive a stipend biweekly as well as a book grant every semester. Without the financial support of ROTC, college would be out of the question for me, there would have been no way to afford it. The second reason for joining ROTC was due to the leadership skills you develop throughout the program. Ever since I have joined the program, I have found that my confidence in leading others has improved, and continues to improve. Without a doubt I am a better leader than I was in high school. Additionally, ROTC helps you to develop a sense of camaraderie and healthy competitiveness in terms of physical shape and academics. ROTC encourages you to compete amongst your peers to be the best in shape and best academically standing.
If you are willing to serve your country and find that you have the potential to lead others, I feel that ROTC is one of the best paths to choose. What other program in the world gives you the opportunity to obtain your bachelor's degree at any university, provide a job leading and helping others upon graduating, and meet people that will become your closest friends? The simple fact is that ROTC puts you on the right track for life, it gives you the chance to see the world, make a difference, and serve this great country.
