Job choices
December 19, 2011
My advice to anyone who asks me about the Army is to really look at what you want for the future. If you have a family and want to stay home, pick reserves. If you aren't sure if the military is for you, go reserves. Just know that at least for me, when I was looking at reserves, I didn't have as many job choices. It was when I finally settled on active did more jobs open up.
Speaking of jobs, your MOS is very important, it will be the job you are trained and tasked to do. Don't pick something just to pick it, and don't let someone force you into a job you aren't 100% on. As my recruiter put it, he said to pick the job that made my heart skip a beat, the one I would be proud to tell people about. It took me awhile to find the right job, I had to wait and come back every month to see if it finally opened up.
I picked 68W, Health Care Specialist. A medic. It is a four month training process, it is hard, but it was worth every moment of it. At the end of it, you're not only a medic in the U.S. Army, but you are also a EMT. Which is awesome.
Find the job for you, you're going to be in the Army for awhile, might as well do something you enjoy. :D
