Finding friends, colleagues in AKO

August 11, 2010

Did you know AKO can help you find anyone in the Army?  AKO’s People directory enables Soldiers, Civilians, Army contractors and even family members to find anyone in the total Army workforce, anywhere in the world. The advanced search function, combined with My Profiles, enables repaid and relevant searches for Soldiers with special skills or abilities.

How can this help you?  Here is an example.  You may have just been assigned to Fort Hood, Texas, and want to find someone in that same area who likes to fish.  You have no idea where to look for some of the best fishing near your base.  So, you go to the People search page, click on “Advanced” in the search options, select “Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood, TX” in the “Current Region” field, and type fishing in the “interests” field.  Anyone who indicated fishing as an interest in the Fort Hood area will appear in the “People Search Results” section toward the bottom of the page.

You can use this same feature to find people with specific skills in specific organizations, and even those who have indicated special schools they’ve attended.

AKO’s My Profile is like an enhanced “Facebook” of the Army.  It offers a secure social networking site that mitigates threats posed by hackers, spammers or phishing.  My Profile is also the feature that serves as a source of information for the advanced People search.
