Celebrating our Nation's Birthday - With Music

July 5, 2010

The U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers' Chorus had a full slate of Independence Day events planned to conclude our Summer 2010 tour.  The picturesque town of Wooster, Ohio is the site of this solo by SSG Tracy Labrecque.  We set up in the center of town, they close off all of the streets in the city center, and thousands of Ohioans fill the square.

Boardman, Ohio is a great place to celebrate the 4th of July.  They have a gorgeous park where approximately 5,000 gather to hear the Musical Ambassadors of the Army and enjoy a fireworks display.

The 4th of July found us in Pittsburgh, PA.  The weather was hot but the atmosphere was festive.

SSG Leah Forsyth gives a big smile for the audience.  Of course, the next day all of the Soldiers will head home so that gets everyone smiling too.

Over the next two weeks, various small groups and soloists will be spreading out over the northeast United States.  I'll be heading for the Crane School of Music in Potsdam to work with high school and college musicians.

America's Big Band - the Jazz Ambassadors  and The Volunteers are still out on the road.  You can see their itineraries on www.ArmyFieldBand.com or follow them on www.facebook.com/fieldband.
