The number of businesses just keeps on climbing. Now there are over 200 companies that are doing a little something for our Veterans on their day, tomorrow. The folks over at Brads Deals have compiled a list of the 200+ stores. You can get to the list easily on their blog at http://www.bradsdeals.com/blog/2010/09/22/160-stores-with-military-discounts/ which they are continually updating. In reviewing the list, I think there is something there for everyone. From Advance Auto Parts to...read more

This posting originally appeared on www.bouhammer.com This definitions explains it pretty well, http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-an-alive-day.htm Yesterday marked the 5th Anniversary of my first recognized Alive Day in Afghanistan. I say "recognized" becuase trust me there were others before-hand that I could have and maybe should have died, but they just don't have the same impact as Sept 8th, 2006 had. You may be asking why I didn't post something about...read more

For years now I have seen more yellow ribbon magnets than I can care to count that say "Support the Troops" or I see a business with a sign that says "We support the Troops" with something like a 5% discount or something. I think many in America now think if they slap a magnet on their car or throw a few dollars to an organization that says they are supporting the troops that they have "checked the block". Well if America is tired of being at the mall...read more

This blog posting originally appeard at www.bouhammer.com Little did I know on Sunday afternoon, while boating around the Niagara river with my boys celebrating Father's Day, that earlier that morning one of my old NCOs, now an officer, LT Postle was helping rescue a stuck Park Police boat. The whole rescue of the four teenage boys before they went over the Falls was pretty big news in Western New York, so many people knew about it. But I wonder how many know about this story and how...read more

Originally posted on www.bouhammer.com I am in Ft. Campbell, KY again this week and today I had some time to travel around the post and visit a few places. One of the first places on my list was Gabriel Field, in the 5th Special Forces Group area. Gabriel field was initially at Ft. Bragg, but after the 5th SFG moved to Ft. Campbell, KY it started to be left unkept. So at some point after 5th SFG moved, they re-designated a field between the barracks and company buildings in the Group area...read more

NOTE-This post originally appeared on bouhammer.com For years I have struggled with how to address Memorial Day when greeting people on this weekend. I know many of my brethren have told me they sometimes struggle with the same thing. I mean saying Happy or Merry Memorial Day does not seem right at all. Would you walk up to someone on the anniversary of the date a loved one of theirs died and say Happy Anniversary!! I think not. I think that is one of the reason's why I...read more

This posting originally appeared on www.bouhammer.com I wonder if Americans can comprehend the incredibly high-risk siutations we put our troops in every day. Afghanistan is especially unique becuase of the lack of sufficient troops, the vast exapanse of the country and the cultural issues when dealing with Afghans. Personally I don't think 99% of America gets it. I say 99% because I don't even think that all family members or friends of those deployed get it. There is no real way to...read more

This post originally appeared on Bouhammer.com. You know I have always asked myself when is it that a milblogger gets so big that they become part of what most of us can't stand, Mainstream Media or MSM for short. Those of us in the milblog world don't normally like journalists, we can't stand and don't trust most MSM and we like to think of ourselves as the honest brokers of information and news from the front. We all would love to have tens of thousands of readers...read more

This entry was originally posted on bouhammer.com There is a company called 5.11. They are known for their tactical clothing and gear. I wonder if they will capitalize on the date of 5.1.11? See 5.1.11 is the date that Usama (or Osama) Bin Laden was sent to hell by the trigger pull of a Navy Seal. Anyway, 5.11 tactical is not the point of this post, killing of that piece of crap is. I was very thrilled the other night when I saw the news. I remember sitting there...read more

Yesterday LTG Hiertling from TRADOC, along with many members of the special council he put together to revamp the Army's Phyisical Fitness Test held a Blogger's Roundtable and then media event to describle, explain and demo the new PT Test for peacetime (Army Physical Readiness Test) and wartime (Army Combat Readiness Test). Jeff Schogol from The Stars and Stripes was on-site and after the call went outside and tried out a few events. There are many major news outlets...read more
