A GREAT DAY: Frocked to 1SG

July 22, 2009

Hello again to everyone. Just wanted to write a blog about me being frocked to 1SG this week. Many of you may not know what being "frocked" means so I will explain it. Last October when the MSG board selection came out I was on the list with a sequence number of 95 out of 136 NCOs. Throughout the year HRC determines how many of us 42A SFCs will be promoted each month of the list. Well up until now, only nine 42A SFCs have been promoted. This means that it will be a long year waiting to get pinned. Well a 1SG job opened up here on Ft. Jackson and I interviewed for the job and I was selected to be fill the position. Since I am promotable I can be "frocked" or wear the 1SG rank. It was great to have my wife there to velcro on my new rank and I am grateful to her and my children to have thier love and support. This journey has not been an easy one, two deployments to Iraq and various other long nights and TDYs, but they love me and support me in anything that I do. Of course what this means is that I will be doing the job of 1SG, but not getting paid the E8 pay until my sequence number comes up. While this is upsetting to me, I will deal with it due to the fact I am working as a 1SG something I have wanted for a long time. The company I am taking over was just activated in May of this year, so there are a lot of things and programs that still need to be established. The job will not be an easy one, but it will be a rewarding one.
