Amazing High School Football Players + Thunder Lighting = Awesome All American Bowl Experience!!!
January 10, 2011
This past week I was in San Antonio, TX for the All American Bowl. This was my second time to San Antonio while on the Drill Sergeant Exhibitor Program and I had a great time again. the first ting that I did was go visit Gary Job Core with fellow Drill Sergeant Schwendeman. We talk to the criminology school there and then did some PT with them they were very receptive and had really good questions not only about the Army and basic training, but also how it affected our live and the lives of our families. We both had a wonderful time there, this was my first visit to this school, DS Schwendeman had been there before and was not able to conduct PT last time. After our trip to Job Core we went to the opening festivities of the Armys All American Bowl. The fist night was the player- Soldier hero challenge. Each team (East and West) participated in a push-up, sit-up and eating competition. The Drill Sergeants demonstrated the events, minus the eating competition, and then graded each individual on their performance. Both teams did really well and in my eyes nether team lost.
On opening day the schools and the public were there in force to take part in all the attractions. There was everything you could think of there, 82ND Airborne Chorus, Old Guard drill team, Army race cars, World class athletes, Army Culinary Arts, and new technologies to name a few things there for everyone to see and tray out. I had a blast running the Army Strength and Action Zone. Everyone there wanted to try the push-up event to see how well they would do and maybe will a football. It was non-stop action there from the time it opened to when we had to shut down. My time in this program is coming to an end and it was really nice to go back to Texas to start the final countdown so to speak. I hope that the students, faculty, and families has as much fun there as we did.
Drill Sergeant Peffer was interviewed by an Army Reserve corespondent, commenting on the Drill Sergeant exhibitor Program and his Army story. We also had two Drill Sergeants(DS Crutcher and DS Robertson) sitting on a Education panel. They were asked questions by the student and their families on how the Army has helped them and what the Army is doing for Soldiers today from Education, Careers, Travel, and programs. Both Drill Sergeant told me they had a great time talking and interacting with the student and their families during the panel.
What event wouldn't be complete if you didn't meet a true life wrestler. His name was Thunder lighting. I saw him at Strength and Action Zone everyday, each day there in his costume supporting the Army and the men and women who serve in it, I had to get my picture and show him some support to. I will be in Florida next week with Drill Sergeant Robertson if you are around look us up. You can also check out the Drill Sergeant Exhibitor program out on it new Facebook page. I hope to see you all there.
