My Second Week is Over...Time for Turkey

November 20, 2010

So its now the end of week two here in Ohio. I just want to say that I had a blast and would love to come back and work once more with the great students, future Soldiers, and educators.  Our Second week started off at the Stow recruiting station  were Drill Sergeant Short and myself conduct a Future Soldier event.  We did PT with these Future Soldiers and taught them how Physical Training is conducted in basic training and the Army.  The Future Soldiers were very responsive and interested in what we had to say and they asked many questions they had about basic training and what Army life is actually like.

We then traveled to Lorain, Ohio and conducted another Future Soldier event.  We held a question and answer session with these young Americans and then we took them to a near by park where they usually hold their future Soldier training during the week.  once there we conducted a PT session with them and had a great time teaching them exercises from basic training.   They were highly  motivated and willing to learn everything we had to teach them.  I think that some of them had a little bit of a shock that they would have to be so active.  They all survived though and appreciated what we were doing.

Drill Sergeant Short and I then went to Minerva High School where we linked up with CPT. Vanneman, a nutritionist from FT. Bragg, NC.  DS Short and myself talked to classes and had a wonderful time. the students were very receptive and showed incredible interest in what the Army does and how being in the service has bettered our lives.  CPT Vanneman talked to the home economics classes about nutrition and being healthy.  She had really interesting things to say and not only taught the students something, but myself as well.

We then went to Washington High School in Massillon, were we conducted a health and fitness expo.  We had a great time, DS Short hed a sit-up event, CPT Vanneman had a nutritionist table, and I did a push-up event.  There were also two wrestlers there from the World Class Athlete Program and they conducted a pull-up event.  There were ten stations in total at the event and the students had to answer questions of do physical tests.  Their scores from the stations in combination with their GPA gave them a total point score.  The Winner got a 1,000 dollars scholarship.  I would be happy to come back to Ohio and work with the educators, students and Future Soldiers some time in the future.

I would like to extend warm holiday wishes to all of you.  After the holidays I will be back on the road the week after Thanksgiving in Tucson, St. Louis, and Houston.
