People ask for my BlackBerry number all the time. They are amazed when I have to dig in my wallet and look at my business card. “Don’t you have it memorized yet?” they ask. Nope, I do not. I have to pull out my Dog Tags to remember my social security number. My wife, Laura, taught me every memorization technique known to man so I don’t forget her birthday. I do have special day committed to memory, but only after severe beatings. Madelyn, our daughter, stopped...read more

SGT Flores here again, students from McNary, South Salem, North Salem, West Salem, Sprague, and McKay High School, Salem, Oregon, all joined in questioning USAREC personnel on the different ways in attaining money for college and training for their career. Several worry about not having the funds to attain a college education. We had a very good turn out and answered questions accordingly. Looking forward to tomorrow's event in Portland. See you there.

  • Facebook, Sergeant Major of the Army, and grooming

    November 3, 2011

By: First Lieutenant Hannah Guarendi He

About a month or so ago, SMA Chandler posted something on his facebook wall. It was something pretty simple, just, "Over the next few months, we will be revising AR 670-1. We are especially looking at Chapter 1, which deals with grooming standards. What parts of that chapter do you want to see changed? Give me your thoughts on earrings for females in ACUs, or if French-tipped fingernails should be allowed. What about tattoos? Do visible tattoos in ACUs (neck, hands, etc.) keep...read more

  • Importance of PPE

    November 2, 2011

    By: Major Kendall Mower

This picture clearly demonstrates why we wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - masks, glasses, gowns, etc... Unfortunately I got the picture after his mask was off - but you can see all the splatter on his glasses and forehead.

  • The List

It’s been a rough couple of weeks. I allowed myself to get into a bit of a slump. The Cardinal’s victory in the World Series was a short-lived respite from the inevitable bout of melancholy that is naturally a part of the emotional ebb and flow of a deployment. The raid on my resiliency wasn’t a full blown frontal assault. Rather, it was a sneak attack at weak points in my soul’s defenses. To combat the ennui I reviewed notes I made in a black and...read more

  • SHPE Event in Anaheim, CA from 26-29 OCT 2011

    November 1, 2011

    By: Major David Jackson

This past week I had the honor of participating in the SHPE event which stands for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. There was a great TEAM effort throughout the Army family which made this SHPE event extremely successful. The biggest takeaway for me is that this event reinforced all the opportunities’ that are available to our Soldiers when their term of service ends. These employers are excited about the “pool” of military talent needed to make their own...read more

  • 2011 USAMU Action Shooting Junior Clinic

    October 30, 2011

By: Private First Class Shane Coley

So today marks the ending of the 2011 USAMU Action Shooting Junior Clinic! Another successful year, with all of the junior shooters leaving with more knowledge and better skills than what they showed up with. Every year since 2008 the USAMU Action Shooting Team has hosted a Junior shooters clinic, where we get young shooters from across the country to come to Ft. Benning and learn from the USAMU Action Shooting Team. It is also a big recruiting tool that we use to...read more

  • A New Grimes

    October 30, 2011

    By: Major Benjamin Grimes

I finally have a good excuse for a long absence -- my wife and I recently welcomed our second child to the family. Work has continued to be crazy (and to inspire concern about command concern for Soldiers and the legal advice they get) and coupled with sleepless nights at home has meant that I haven't had the energy to sit down and write. Now that my baby girl is about 2 months old - and we're both sleeping a little more - I've got a lot to catch up on. So...read more

  • BOXING STAR-POWER GRACES TASK FORCE DUKE, AGAIN

What's the probability of any one person getting struck by lightning in their lifetime? Pretty low--- some "experts" say one in a million. What's the probability that one person is struck by lightning twice in their lifetime? Quite a bit less--- something like one in nine-million (it has happened in recent history--- just ask Don Frick of Hamline, PA -http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=news/bizarre&id=5520679- who was struck...read more
