Too often the cost of our freedom is causally taken for granted. The sacrifices made by our brave service members are at times overlooked or under appreciated. I am regrettably one of those who for many years, even while serving in the US Army Reserve, failed to recognize the extent of the sacrifices made in order to secure our liberties, which testify to America's exceptionalism. For too many years, Veterans Day or Memorial Day were just days off from work or an excuse to...read more

The NSBE Convention has been a wonderful experience for me as an Army ROTC Recruiter. It has been very inspirational to see such a wonderful group of young minds--they have such a bright future ahead of them. It was a pleaseure to talk to them! I hope that some of them consider a future with the Army.

What is one of the major differences between being a successful Soldier and being successful in the civilian sector? Success in the Army is achieved by embracing the team and letting go of your individuality. Only by realizing and accepting your role within the team can you successfully serve your comrades and unit.. You must be able to act according to what’s best for the Army and our country. My oldest daughter, as well, has been able to benefit from the Post 911...read more

Calle Ocho was an amazing experience! This was my first time attending the Calle Ocho festival and I have to say it definitely lived up to its reputation. The culture, the art, the food, and the music, tantalized my senses throughout the two days of the festival. Not only were the patrons of the festival hospitable and inviting, but it seemed everyone attending had a spirit of festivity and camaraderie. A spirit not unlike that of the individuals I work with from day to day in the Army. That...read more

What to do, what to do? In the next two - six years, my time in the Army will likely come to an end. Sadly, I have not spent the last twenty-two years deciding exactly what career path to follow after retirement. Sure, I've had plans and pursued those plans by attending college. The problem is that plans change - or at least mine seem to- and, when plans change, so does the college curriculum. As a result, my degree plan has changed countless times in more than...read more
