Where were you when the World Stopped Turning???
September 11, 2011
By: Sergeant First Class Mike Wiggins
I wanted to write something on 9-11 on the 10th Anniversary. When I see this video, it makes me think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvj6zdWLUuk I remember it like it was yesterday. I was stationed at Fort Benning, GA living in Government Housing called McGraw Manors. My two oldest children were off @ school and my wife was with my youngest son at his 1st year checkup. It was 8:30am, I was home waiting for the repairman to show up @ 9am to fix my a/c. I was...read more

Since 9/11 is tomorrow here is a short story about how that event indirectly touched my life. I did not have anybody directly killed, but I had contact with one. At the time of 9/11, I was at Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC) in Grafenwhoer, Germany. I was part of a group that was on flag detail for the post, and we had to observethe prior detail in how they conducted the retreat ceremony. After watching, we literally ran to the dining facility to meet up with...read more

I will make my Army Story in several posts. It is a long time to condense into one posting. Since I am a recruiter in Houston, I hope this will help bring visibility on our station. I graduated high school on 30 May 1998, and on 10 June, I shipped to basic training at Fort Sill, OK. I was prepared for the weather fo summer, as my hometown was 1 hour south of the Lawton Fort Sill area. I will say it was rough at first, simply wanting to go home...read more

I'm back in action! I have been off the net for a couple of months learning my new terrain in Northern California and Southern Oregon. Quite a difference between here and Minneapolis. I only had 1,300 square miles to cover there, whereas here I have 37,000 square miles. It has been an adjustment to say the least! So far, so good. Mother nature has been good to us up here. It has rained only once since June and the temperature is triple digits more often than not. Hard to complain about...read more

In my continuing series on the Army Values, today I am talking about Selfless Service. To me this me giving yourself to the Army and if the mission comes first above all else. The Army mission has to come first, that is what you joined for and it has to be accomplished, you will have to take care of Soldiers and sometimes you will have to sacrifice your needs to make it happen. There are times that it would be easy just to worry about yourself, however we are a team and there is no...read more

NATO Intermediate NCO Course- Command Relationships
August 7, 2011
By: First Sergeant William Howell
I am a little late on blogging about this being that the briefing was on 22 July, but here it is. Switzerland is a member of the Partnership for Peace, and they have established an NCO school in Lucerne, Switzerland. They run a basic course (WLC equivalent), an Intermediate Course (ALC equivalent), and a Senior Course (SLC equivalent) and all of these are designed for NATO NCOs, mostly from other nationalities but US NCOs can attend as well. At the end of tier two week course they have a...read more

Continuing with my Army Values series today I am talking about Respect, respect to me means being respectful to your seniors, your peers, subordinates and the Army. Being respectful means listening and paying people the proper courtesy even if you do not like the person or the mission. Many times, you hear that you do not have the person, but you must respect the rank, and this is true. The Army's says Respect is treat people as they should be treated. In the Soldier's Code, we...read more
