I reported to ILE at Fort Lee, VA on 04 JAN 2012 and I'm a part of class #12-001. There are a total of 64 students in the class with all branches being represented and most functional areas as well. These students come to ILE with a wealth of experience. The class is mainly made-up of Majors but we do have some Captains and Lieutenant Colonels. We complete the core phase of ILE in the next 3 1/2 months with a graduation date of 18 APR 2012. Once the core phase is...read more

This past week I had the honor of participating in the SHPE event which stands for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. There was a great TEAM effort throughout the Army family which made this SHPE event extremely successful. The biggest takeaway for me is that this event reinforced all the opportunities’ that are available to our Soldiers when their term of service ends. These employers are excited about the “pool” of military talent needed to make their own...read more

A symbol of strength is what my Army uniform is to me. Each and every day that I’m fortunate enough to put it on, I transform from an ordinary American citizen to an extraordinary American patriot. I’ am overwhelmed with pride just knowing that every time I put my boots on, I step into a challenge that only a few are willing or able to take on. I jump into a world of opportunities whether it’s pursuing a strong education, or strengthening my leadership skills by...read more

I spent another day at the LULAC convention working my hardest to find qualified applicants to keep our Army Strong. I remember 15 years ago when I was sitting in the chair across from my recruiter and being nervous out of my mind. I see so many different people in different stages in their life come in to my office. I understand it is not easy to go to a recruiter the bad rap that we have I don't blame people for being hesitant. The Army and Recruiting command has come along way...read more

As I sit with my wife who is also a combat veteran, we reminisce of the time before serving and how so many of our old friends are doing the same thing they were when we graduated HS. I enlisted two great Americans this week and are so excited to help the young people in my community take a huge step in growing up and moving on to the next part of their life. It reminds me of reporting to Germany and realizing that I had never cooked for myself or done my own laundry. 18 years of living in NM...read more

"He's always here for us", said the High School Athletic Director. He was referring to the local recruiter who hailed from that same community in Northern California. The U.S. Army Recruiter was vested in his community and that sentiment was echoed by several teachers and administrators. The Recruiter, a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant, assisted at track practice and meets and at baseball events. More importantly, he was providing the young men and...read more
