Throughout history, humanity has often asked what is the meaning of life. It is my opinion that life is what happens while we are making plans for the future. As a teenager and now as an adult, I have repeatedly asked myself, what or who do I want to be when I grow-up? Not much has changed in my answer to this question. I have chosen and continue to choose to serve my country because I believe the profession of arms is noble, personally rewarding, and necessary to...read more

A few days ago I had the enormous pleasure of attending a retirement ceremony for Lieutenant Colonel Dwain Wilkins, North Carolina National Guard. The ceremony was held at the headquarters of the 139th Combined Arms Regiment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The 139th is responsible for providing training for the NC National Guard including officer candidate school, non-commissioned officer training, and military occupational specialty (MOS) specific skills training. They have a...read more

The first three days (Day 0-2) went by smoothly. It was all inprocessing and equipment draw. I will offer the following pieces of advice, especially to 2LTs that did not do gold bar and thus came on active duty the day before their respective ABOLC start dates: Go to your local travel office and coordinate your DITY move to your TDY location before you actually leave on TDY. This is a good chunk of change you dont want to pass up. Remember to get your POV weighed...read more

Relatively simple stuff – day and night land navigation and squad-level situational training exercise (STX) lanes. The logistics and training management aspects of planning and resourcing the event can be complicated, however. Especially if this is your first time doing it! To complicate matters, we had a last-minute change in training venue...read more

Well i recently completed my training to become a 19 kilo M1A1 crewman and let me tell you theres nothing better than being on a tank. The best way to describe a tank is a killing machine on tracks its a complete beast. You havent lived till youve been inside a tank fireing the main gun and watching the breach block come flying back at you in the loaders hole. Driveing a tank is alot like driveing a ship on dirt with a motorcycle t bar as your control. The day you get to go to the mud course...read more

Not a day goes by that I don't feel incredibly honored and blessed to be a Soldier. I have had more fun, more frustration, more stress, more sorrow, and more joy than I would have ever thought prior to my commissioning 13 years ago. I have gotten to go half way around the world – twice. I have served with absolute heroes and people of unsurpassed character at every turn. I have ridden through the Mojave Desert with the OPFOR and beaten BLUFOR 28 rotations in a row. I met my wife and...read more
