The U.S. Army Field Band presented another great concert, this time in Las Vegas. We didn't have 99¢ shrimp cocktails or all-you-can-eat buffets but we did have a great rendition of "Something to Talk About" featuring SSG Tracy Labrecque with the sax section as her back-ups. Flutist SSG Sean Owen has great focus. Another standing ovation. After every concert, audience members flock to meet and talk with Soldiers. These young Americans...read more

The U.S. Army Field Band is rolling across the state of Arizona telling the Army Story. We often have student musicians sit in with the Concert Band. In Sierra Vista the Soldiers' Chorus was joined by some young vocalists. We often have local color guards present The Colors. So close to Fort Huachuca, we were sure to get a great Army JROTC Color Guard. At Sun City West, over 2500 people turned out for a great concert under the stars. The next...read more

I had the pleasure of interviewing one of my colleagues this week, Staff Sergeant Jeff Prosperie. He is a really great guy with an interesting background. I hope you enjoy the interview as much as I did! Staff Sergeant Jeff Prosperie arrived to the West Point Band as a member of the Hellcats in December of 2006. In addition to his duties as a Hellcat, he also performs with the percussion ensemble, steel band, and concert band. Jeff is a World Snare Drum Champion and is the only individual...read more

  • A long week ending with a great event!

In almost every field there are ways to poke fun of your colleagues in an innocent way (anyone remember the episode of Seinfeld where they make fun of podiatrists not being "real" doctors?). We have this too in the band, and the easiest instrument to make fun of (in my opinion) is the saxophone. This weekend we celebrated the saxophone by hosting the North American Saxophone Alliance (yes, that's right... NASA). I actually had a lot of fun, all joking aside. We had a guest...read more

This past Tuesday, I went to lunch with our publicity specialist, Chrissy Clark, and our GRAMMY AWARD WINNING sound engineer, Brandie Lane! We all were working that morning for the Young People’s Concert that the West Point Band hosts annually. I played in the Concert Band and also with Quintette 7, Chrissy took photos of the performance and talked to the kids, and Brandie ran the sound.
