July 4th, 1776 is a day that everyone knows. That's the day that the Declaration of Independence was signed and we became a nation. Throughout our 234 plus years of existence as a Nation we've changed many things but one thing has always remained constant. That one constant has always been "The Soldier". The soldier has always been there; steadfast, ready and willing to protect the freedoms that we hold so dear to our...read more

It's amazing how you feel better after a good work-out, but even better when you have someone doing it with you to motivate you. Well I had three gym classes full of energentic teenagers to help me motivate them to do some good ole PT. After introducing myself and telling the students my Army Story I took them through a brief PT session that the Soldiers in Basic Combat Training would go through. I had three demostrators to help with Preparation Drill, they would...read more

So I am going to try something a little different with this post. I had so much to keep me busy in Des Moines and so much to write about I wanted to try and sum it all up at once. Where do I start? Running, I stick by my belief that the best way to check out any area you are at is by putting in some miles. As soon as I got to Des Moines, I jumped on the internet and scouted out my route. As soon as I got on the street I kind of felt as...read more

Thank you Freedom High School JROTC for allowing to participate in your Cadet Brigade Command inspection. The day kicked off with a presentation from the JROTC Staff. I was soooo impressed with the outstanding job these Cadets did with this presentation that it made me feel like I was in a real staff meeting in a real Army Battalion. These Cadets were very professional and well disciplined in giving their briefing from every staff section. I had the pleasure of taking...read more

So for the next couple of days I will be supporting the Fort Lauderdale Recruiting Company in sunny Fort Lauderdale, FL, and today I headed out to Margate, FL to support some future Soldier training at the Margate Recruiting Station. SFC Rodriguez and the rest of his recruiting station, along with some of the other recruiting stations in the area are some of the most compassionate Non-commissioned Officers that I have met. They take their time to make sure that these future Soldiers...read more

Thank you SFC Davis for inviting my out to today to talk to some of the outstanding students at Crestwood High School in Sumter, SC. Even though the day was gray and gloomy outside today it wasn't like that inside the gym at Crestwood. These great students gave me their undivided attention to allowed me to tell my Army stories and to give them a brief insight on what Basic Combat Training is like. We talked about the Army Values, Physical Fitness and just about every...read more

I had the opportunity to visit Florence, SC this week for a Future Soldier Event. I was invited to talk to about 20 of the Army's soon to be Soldiers. It was really great to give them a small taste of what Basic Combat Training is going to be for them. I know some of the barbers at the Reception Stations are going to have a ball doing some of the haircuts on some of these males(LOL). The Future Soldiers have some very good questions about what they can and can not...read more

So I traveled back to the great state of Texas again. The flight down there this time was more eventful than I could have imagined. I got to Dallas and everything shut down because of weather and when they finally let us board the plane we sat on the tarmac waiting for an hour. Lucky for us there was a Mariachi band and their entire family on the plane and they serenaded us till we took off - not bad unless you just wanted to sleep. Once I landed in McAllen,...read more

I would like to take this time to introduce myself to the readers and bloggers of the Army Strong Stories website. I am elated to know that there is a site out here that will allow professional Soldiers the opportunity to communicate with each other across the globe. I have been in the Army for 14 years and I am a proud Human Resources Professional (42A)! I just recently left an assignment at the Soldier Support Institute NCO Academy at Fort Jackson as a 42A SLC instructor,...read more

Well it's been a whirlwind of activity for the last couple of weeks for me. I spent a week in Indianapolis at the Future Farmers of America convention and went right into the NHRA race in Las Vegas the following week. FFA was fun, but very busy. Some 55,000 members were in attendance at the convention and, honestly, it was a little overwhelming. Significantly different numbers from what Drill Sergeants are used to dealing with, being that a basic training...read more
