Why must BOLC end at the end of college football season? Why could it not start ohhhh, a month earlier so I could catch the final few games? *Hides head in hands and sobs.* Now that I am married, it can be tough at times to choose which Big 12 team to cheer for. Go Huskers or Go Pokes? Oh, the hardship! This past weekend was OSU's homecoming and because of my work schedule, I could not fly back to Oklahoma to go to the game. *Again, hides head in hands and sobs.* BUT...read more

The Hunt for the Hooah: The Low Man on the Totem Pole
October 23, 2010
By: First Lieutenant Kayley Nammari
This past week and the next I will be out in the field with the AIT soldiers. It's not as bad as it sounds, trust me. I arrive at Site Maverick ready to work at 2330 and thankfully leave whenever my TOC is done briefing their products and they've been properly chewed out. It makes for a really long day, but I find it so rewarding in the end. I am the "Assistant S2" for Delta TOC. I give my title quotation marks because really what I do is act as a...read more

Did I just date myself a little bit? The Goonies was one of my all time favorite movies as a kid! Looking back, I think what I enjoyed most about it was the sense of adventure with your best buds. This may be a bit of a stretch but BOLC has been, in some ways, quite the adventure and the friends I've made along the way have made me smile and kept me sane. Since I only have three and a half weeks left here at Fort Wegotcha, here's a look back at the times I've spent...read more

The rundown of my day: -Found out there is now a new PT doctrine. No more sports PT. No more buddy runs. Less running in general. More stretching. Lots and lots of stretching. Seriously. A Major spent a solid five minutes instructing us on the proper form for the Bend and Reach, something I haven't done since Basic Training. Which was almost 4 years ago. -Spent 8.5 hours staring at Power Point slides. While being tortured by death by Power Point,...read more

Hey, I'm Brent. Or Staff Sergeant Mayberry. I'm a soldier in the National Guard, and right now I'm Africa. I'm here with my unit to help implement AFRICOM's three-D strategy: diplomacy, development, and defense. It's a unique mission, I think, heavy on civil affairs missions and training. But that's because Africa is unique. Traditions and cultures are different than those in the West. Not better, not worse, just different....read more

The Hunt for the Hooah: It's the Final Countdown
October 17, 2010
By: First Lieutenant Kayley Nammari
Dun-nuuh-nuh...dun-nuh-nuh-nuh... Please let me not be the only person who hears "The Final Countdown" and thinks of Gob from Arrested Development (aka the greatest TV show ever). I digress. My point is that I have less than ONE month left of BOLC! 4 weeks to be exact and that's including another four day weekend! Oh my goodness, I am soooo thrilled!!! Say it with me now..."It's the final countdown!" Enjoy the...read more

The Hunt for the Hooah: Life is Better With Your Best Bud
October 12, 2010
By: First Lieutenant Kayley Nammari
Yes, I adore my husband. So when a four day weekend presents itself, I spend every moment with him. The worst part is saying goodbye at the airport, flying back alone, and coming back to an apartment that has no one to hug. The best part is making plans to see him again.

I am CDT Dustin Elias, a senior in the Campbell University ROTC. After a couple of years in the army I wanted to become an officer, but I have children in the exceptional family member program and saw no way to become an officer without leaving the military. I could leave because my children need the Army health care due to the speech, occupational, and physical therapy they receive on a weekly basis. A Couple of years ago, one of the officers I worked with, CPT Lance, informed me of the...read more

Taking a break from all this training chatter, I'm in the mood to share a part of my life that is incredibly precious to me: my marriage. Wait! Before you click away because this doesn't cover my usual "I worked another 17 hour day" banter, at least take a moment to realize that sometimes we tend to shove certain things to the side for the sake of our career. I do. All. The. Time. Guilty, guilty, guilty. Mark, my husband (yes, I still love writing...read more

Oh MIBOLC, how you make me want scream obscenities. I always feel like I'm playing catch up but never know what I'm supposed to be doing or what's going on for that matter. It's frustrating. The light at the end of the tunnel feels so far away and out of reach if not impossible. How do my instructors motivate the class? By the usual "These many people failed last time..." I could use a hug.
