Before I joined the Army, I had graduated from Salem High School in Virginia Beach and was working at Outback Steak House. Upon completion of basic training, I attended AIT (Advanced Individual Training) in Fort Lee Virginia to become a Food Service Specialist. Shortly after my “high-speed” training...read more

SGT Flores here again, students from McNary, South Salem, North Salem, West Salem, Sprague, and McKay High School, Salem, Oregon, all joined in questioning USAREC personnel on the different ways in attaining money for college and training for their career. Several worry about not having the funds to attain a college education. We had a very good turn out and answered questions accordingly. Looking forward to tomorrow's event in Portland. See you there.

During my last deployment in 2007-2008 I was selected to become a detailed recruiter. At first I did not want anything to do with it, but 2 years later I am in the process of converting to a full time recruiter. I feel that I have many tools to help out when it comes to young men and women saying they are afraid to join because of the ongoing conflicts. I have experienced the up's and down's of deployment and understand what it is like to leave youyr loved ones.

I love being a soldier in the United States Army. It is very challenging, but it is rewarding. I take pride in being able to tell people that I am a soldier. There is just something about the word soldier that get peoples attention.

While visiting the Orlando Metroa Area, I've had the opportunity to participate in the 2011 DECA Conference as one of three West Point Representatives. As a young officer and 2009 graduate of the United States Military Academy, I've been able to provide a very unique perspective on the Army for a possible career. The Conference is open to high school students from across the country and will run for a few days. The Army has a booth set-up in the very front of the Orange County...read more

Countdown to the All-American Bowl in San Antonio…I am leaving on 3 January to gather the team, set up the equipment, prep the food, and then it show time in the Army Strong Zone just outside the Alamodome January 6 – 9. I just hope this year it will be a little warmer. Even with the benefit of an open flame and large scale cooking demos, I don’t think I ever warmed up. I’ll be joined by a number of talented Army Chefs who I have...read more

The dust has finally settled from my trip to Germany for the Culinary World Cup. I’m happy with the results, despite us not earning the top prize, everyone on the team performed well and I am very proud of them. We made some mistakes along the way, but we're developing new menus and there are things we will work on before the Culinary Olympics. We're less than two years away from the Culinary Olympics we will continue...read more

Last week during mil lab, the MS 4s taught some MS 1s the proper techniques for individual movement. We taught them how to low and high curl and buddy rushes. Doing a lot of running in Cross Country and doing PT in the morning helps keep me in shape so when I do these individual movements I will not wear out as fast. Our cross country season is slowly coming to an end as we maintain our physical fitness for the regional’s race that is coming up this week. It is important to sometimes to...read more
