It was truly an honor to provide some leadership knowledge to the future leaders of industry. I hope that the focus on Being a Leader, Knowing your Trade, and Doing What You Preach was able to help refine who the students are. I received many good comments from the students, and I hope that this may spark an interest in leadership. The U.S. Army has not only taught me what it takes to lead in the Military, but also how to be an effective leader in the business world. While working for Kraft...read more

It's been a long time since I posted, but I was recently inspired to start blogging again. This is a great oppurtunity to give people a chance to really understand our experience, what we do, and what all this means to us. This is so important. People need to be able to connect with us and share in our experiences a much as possible. Otherwise, the distance between us and everyone else grows. When that happenns, people don't take us for...read more

Motivation from United States Hispanic Leadership Institute
February 17, 2012
By: Major Roman Ortega
It was absolutely a great opportunity to be at the United States Hispanic Leadership to see such motivating speakers and a representation of what can be accomplished with the right attitude. Education is the great equalizer for people who have great drive and conviction to succeed at life. The Army paid for my education and still does as I finish my Graduate degree. I hope to show the country and fellow Hispanics that we can succeed.

I feel it to be a true blessing to have found my calling in life as a soldier. I represent a great nation that stands for freedom, but also the Mexican culture that represents hard work. I found my purpose early in life. I knew what mine was at the age of 17. I was raised with the understanding that we live in a great country. Knowing that my parents came from rough conditions but persevered without a single complaint has always give me the strength to worker harder,...read more

I am currently attending the Army's Intermediate Level Education (ILE) at Fort Lee, VA. One of the objectives of the course is to improve our understanding of and ability to effectively operate within the interagency. Visiting the State Department gave our class the opportunity to meet not only with several State Department representatives, but also with members of USAID, the Department of Energy, and the Treasury Department. Even having served on an embassy's...read more

I am honored to have the opportunity to continue serving our Nation as an Army Foreign Area Officer (FAO). I deployed for 16 months and served in both Mosul and Baghdad, Iraq....read more

Our next trip was to Teotuhuacan, an ancient ruins site about 50km to the northeast of Mexico City. Teotuhuacan was incredible. The below picture is an internet download. I was unable to get up quite that high to get the whole landscape view. The grounds are huge and the two primary temples are massive. The word Teotuhuacan is an Aztec word (in the Nahuatl language) and means birthplace of the gods. The city is not an Aztec city, it predates...read more

Okay, it has been a very very long time since my last post. For that I apologize. Since my last post a lot has happened to me in real time. I think at the time of my last post, my daughter had just been born. She's is a very mobile and precocious nine month old. I graduated from my master's program and I have begun CGSC (ILE). So, I have a lot of things to blog about, but before I can get to those more recent developments, I...read more
