By: Aaron Mallory
I am now done with summer training for the year. For the past five weeks I have been at West Point completing a detail as a basic training first sergeant. This summer was the first time that I was able to assume a leadership role of more than just one person. As a first sergeant for cadet basic training I was responsible for over 200 cadets and new cadets. My internship at Army Emergency relief helped prepare me for my summer leadership assignment.

In one of my talks with General...read more

By: Aaron Mallory
The past couple of days at Army Emergency Relief have been all about finances. One of my final projects at AER was to perform an analysis on the banking fees and operations of Army Emergency Relief.

What this project entailed was tracking the different banking fees that Sun Trust Bank has charged Army Emergency Relief for the past three years. In order to perform this analysis I used Microsoft excel to graph the fees over a three year time period. What I found was that that the Banking...read more

Another Great Weekend

By: Aaron Mallory
This weekend was a great weekend. I got to spend time with my friends from West Point and take in more of Washington D.C. The main thing I did this weekend was watch two Washington Nationals’ games. The Nationals were able to win one of the games that I went to. It was really a great time.

Although my main goal at the game was to have fun with friends. I was still able to learn some principles that apply to my management major. The first thing that I saw was an example of how...read more

 Human Resources Management

For the pass four days with Army Emergency Relief I have been given a lesson in Human Resource Management. This is because I have been performing a financial analysis on the payroll of the AER Employees.

What I was doing was looking at the way AER gives pay raises and how much the usually give pay raises for. Unlike the Army AER bases it raises off of performance and not time in service. This being the case productivity at AER should increase because the...read more

Memorial Day weekend

By: Aaron Mallory
Memorial Day weekend in Washington DC was a lot of fun. I was able to honor those who have served and learn at the same time. On Saturday I went around to the capitol, national archives, and Arlington Nation Cemetery. It was amazing to see all of the head stones each decorated with an American Flag. Just by going to Arlington I learned more about service than any class could teach me.

On Sunday, I went to Gettysburg national park. Gettysburg was a lot of fun. I was able to...read more

By: Aaron Mallory
My AIAD or Internship for the summer is at the Headquarters for Army Emergency Relief. Their offices are located in Alexandria Virginia at the Hoffman buildings. Army Emergency Relief (AER) is a company that is committed to helping Soldiers. AER provides no interest loans and grants to both active duty and retired soldiers when they are in need. They also have a scholarship program for spouses and children of Soldiers.
