By: Terrence Hynes
Well, I’ve had a few months to study the market in Northern California since leaving Minnesota. From the South end of the Sacramento Valley to the Southern third of Oregon and from the West Coast to the Nevada state line, one thing remains constant – mountains and trees; BIG trees. The people though, vary in personality and patriotism by county up here. I had been told – and even bought into the fact than one of counties, Humboldt is and will always...read more

By: Ryan Marcum
During this Thanksgiving season, I am reminded that very few get to do this career that I find myself in, again. I have been on the enlisted side of the Army, 1996-1999, and went to college and started a family. I was out of the Army for roughly ten years and decided to try and join again. Needless to say, I signed my oath of office in August 2010 and am now on my way to serving as long as Uncle Sam allows me to.

By: William Howell
Hello everyone, hope you are having a great Thanksgiving! Today in Brunssum, The Netherlands players from my battalion and I played in the Annual Turkey Bowl flag football game. Our opponents were the Air Force who are stationed at Geilenkirchen, Germany and they have won this game the past 5 years. I played in last year's game and we lost 2-0 which was very disappointing. This year we vowed that we would not lose and bring the coveted Army/Air Force helmet back to AFNORTH Battalion....read more

This is my first of many future posts following my Army career. I have enjoyed reading other stories and like what I have seen. I joined the Army, the first time, in 1995 through the early enlistment program and served for three years. I was an enlisted soldier with the MOS of 19D, Scouts Outs! I honorably discharged in 1999 and to headed to college, long story short, I married my beautiful wife and started a family. At the time of 9/11, I was at Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC) in Grafenwhoer, Germany. In my continuing series on the Army Values, today I am talking about Selfless Service. To me this me giving yourself to the Army and if the mission comes first above all else. The Army mission has to come first, that is what you joined for and it has to be accomplished, you will have to take care of Soldiers and sometimes you will have to sacrifice your needs to make it happen. There are times that it would be easy just to worry about yourself, however we are a team and there is no...read more

By: William Howell
Continuing with my Army Values series today I am talking about Respect, respect to me means being respectful to your seniors, your peers, subordinates and the Army. Being respectful means listening and paying people the proper courtesy even if you do not like the person or the mission. Many times, you hear that you do not have the person, but you must respect the rank, and this is true. The Army's says Respect is treat people as they should be treated.
