By: Andrew Bordelon
The Demon Batallion is now in its third week of the spring semester and has added a few new cadets. Our MS3 class had its first lab last Thursday. For the next few weeks, our lab training will consist of repetitive STX training to ensure everyone's competence and confidence in the exercises. We've been told that once we start getting it down right, our Cadre and MS4 cadets will begin throwing some variables at us to keep us on our feet and thinking outside the box....read more

By: Andrew Bordelon
Our CO, LTC Kevin McAllister, gave a speech on Veteran's Day last Thursday at a retirement home where we gave a drill team and colorguard demonstration for the veterans living there. He touched on a few points about the veterans and military service in general, but he said some other things that had me thinking about it for the rest of the day. He mentioned the storming of the beaches in Normandy in World War II and the courage of those men of that generation, often referred to as...read more

By: Andrew Bordelon
Our field training exercise was an overall success. It comprised of land nav training for the majority of the day on Friday after we arrived at our training site in the Kisatchie National Forest. Cadets were given eight points to locate using the skills taught and practiced over the past few months in military science classes. There were a few instances when I felt a bit "momentarily disoriented," but I ended up passing the course in the long run. Our night land nav...read more

By: Andrew Bordelon
The Demon Battalion conducted land nav training at a local Ranger Station in Natchitcohes. Our MS2's and MS3's navigated their way to find points set up by our MS4's prior to training. As an MS3, I trained alone on the course. I was confident at first and began traveling straight into the woods through heavy brush. However, my confidence got a little shakey right about the point I crossed into a man's backyard and came face to face with his growling...read more

The Demon Battalion had some land nav training this week, working on our pace count and utilizing attack points. Cadets have been practicing different battle drills over the past few weeks during our lab training. Our MS3s have also been working on leading our underclassmen in these battle drills in order to prepare for their training and evaluations at LDAC next summer....read more
