Korea CULP 2011 - People

By: Caleb DeVries
One of the best parts of my trip to South Korea with CULP has been the people I have been able to meet. The Korean people have a different way of thinking and its interesting when one starts to notice the differences and discover why. The more I've gotten to know them though I've discovered how similar we are. In the end we both laugh, cry, and share all the basic traits that make us human. Being able to spend time with them and live with them has made me view the Korean people as more...read more

By: Caleb DeVries
So far we have been able to see several different landmarks in South Korea. One of the most memorable however was the Demilitarized Zone on the border of North and South Korea. To see all the barbwire, security, and emplacements set up to guard this small stretch of land emphasized the tension between the two countries. It was easy to see that both countries still considered the other a great threat. It made the conflict so much more real.

It was also clearly evident how the...read more

By: Caleb DeVries
On our trip to Korea we were also given the opportunity to stay with a fellow ROTC cadet from the Korean Army. I can definitely say that it was one of the most memorable parts of my trip and also one of the more educational times. By staying with him for a night and two days I was able to see more into the life of a normal Korean family. One can go to another country and see the different monuments and landmarks that its famous for but until you actually interact with the people you will...read more
