ROK ROTC Experience

By: Daniel Madayag
Another great experience that I had during my stay in Korea was being able to train with our Korean ROTC counterparts, the Republic of Korea cadets. For 2 days and 1 night, we had participated in their physical training, observed their field training exercises, ate in their dining facility, and lastly, slept in their barracks. It was amazing to see the type of training that they did, especially their pt sessions, which were pretty intense. Also, they were very welcoming and helpful when we...read more

Korean Food

By: Daniel Madayag
The focus of this trip to Korea was to strengthen the bond between America and Korea and also to improve our understanding of the Korean culture. A huge part of the Korean culture centers around its’ food. Though a bit foreign to me, I have tried many of the local favorites and I have to say that taste pretty well.

Of all the dishes that I have tried here, about 90% of them include some type of spice making it a spicy dish for my tongue. Despite their spiciness, I still found all...read more

Korea University and the Training with Their Tae Kwon Do Team

By: Daniel Madayag
One of the most influential experiences that I had in Korea was practicing Tae Kwon Do with Korea University's Tae Kwon Do team. Their members showed athleticism and dedication as they taught my CULP Korea team and I some easier techiniques. I especially felt like a fish out of water while practicing and training with them.

Strangely, I did feel a connection with them because I am also a practitioner of martial arts. Despite this, I still had my rear handed to me by their Tae Kwon Do...read more
