Veteran's Day to Me

By: Elizabeth Goodman
This past Thursday was Veterans' Day and it came just like every year. However, one thing about this Veteran's Day made it completely different and gave it a whole new meaning for me. With several of my family members being veterans, I had always appreciated what they had done and thanked them for their service. Although I was in ROTC last year for Veteran's Day, it wasn't very emphasized within our battalion or on the Syracuse University campus. This...read more

Fall Training

By: Elizabeth Goodman
Each semester our ROTC department conducts FTX to better prepare cadets for time in the field. This is a great chance for cadets of all years and experience levels to get a lot of new training. Over a three day period, we had the opportunity to participate in cultural awareness and rules of engagement classes, building hooches to sleep under, leading and taking part in 4 STX lanes, and day and night land navigation. For the MSIV class, FTX is the final result of months of...read more

Airborne-All the Way

By: Elizabeth Goodman
This past summer I was luckily given the opportunity to attend Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Whether you're looking for something exciting, need something to do this summer, or just want to further your Army skills and experiences, it's one of the best opportunities I've ever been given in ROTC. Aside from learning to parachute from a plane, there's many...read more

Joining ROTC

By: Elizabeth Goodman
I decided to join the Army ROTC program after spending a week with my aunt and uncle last summer at Fort Benning, Georgia after never considering joining the armed services and since that time my life has drastically changed for the better. In addition to the well-known benefits of joining the Army ROTC program like paying for college, a monthly stipend, and a definite job after graduation, I've found that ROTC has so much more to offer to students wishing to contribute to...read more
