As much as I love to chat, I believe my pictures from the Graduation Parade on Friday and Graduation on Saturday tell the story better than I can. I guess a picture really is worth a thousand words!

Preparing for Graduation!

By: Elizabeth Kraft
Wednesday, May 18 brought lots of work at the Visitors Center. The visitors center is located just yards from the West Point Museum, and is the starting point for tours and currently houses five exhibits and a movie about USMA life. As wonderful as it is, my job is to make it better by renovating a 15’x15’ blank exhibit space to “Tell the Story” of academics at West Point.

This is no easy task, however.

Through this, I am learning how...read more

A Dreary Monday...

 Let the fun begin!

This week started off fast with a WKDT tour and orientation of the services that they offer the corp. These cadets, under the leadership of Mr. Joe Cyr, are the background workers of all cadet functions. They provide music, sound systems, and all other audio needs to functions like company or regiment barbeques and cadet activities. Joe Cyr also in trained to deal with crisis media; he is the one who will deal with media in the case of...read more

Lots of Photo Ops!

By: Elizabeth Kraft
Tuesday was a whirlwind! It began with a rainy Alumni Review where I was with the Pointer View (West Point’s newspaper) taking pictures and shadowing Mike Strasser as he interviewed the oldest grad present, Retired GEN Ralph Haines (see GEN Haines addressing COL Thayer’s Statue below).

I also spoke with Old Grads about their time here at USMA, and a cheery group of them gathered under the Pershing Sally Port to gossip about their time when they lived in “Hotel Pershing.”

That afternoon, I...read more

I am officially finishing up my first week here in the Public Affairs Office. I survived!

Plus, I got to do all kinds of cool stuff this week:

On Tuesday, I jumped right in with the Pointer View, the post newspaper, staff while they were proofreading the latest issue. I was amazed to see the paper after it had been passed the whole way around the office. Everyone seemed to find one error, and the paper came out looking pretty perfect. It’s...read more

Good Morning, West Point!

By: Elizabeth Kraft
I'm never nervous to try new things. I am rarely intimidated, but when my sponsors dropped me off at library corner, and I started walking between the new library and all the construction... I was scared. All these giant stone buildings and hundreds of cadets that I didn’t know... What did I get myself into?

My fears were eased when I saw the little gray and yellow "Public Affairs Office" sign. Inside were civilians, officers, and enlisted soldiers eager to meet me and...read more
