[Please Note: I was unable to post this before we left Nicaragua as there were more storms and poweroutages. Thanks for still checking!]

For the past four days in Granada there have been huge thunderstorms at night, with the past two days leading to blackouts, no water, and electric problems in the city. Also why I haven’t been able to post in awhile so let me catch you...read more

By: Emeline Hood
For the past few nights we’ve had thunderstorms here making the internet in our hotel spotty so I’ve been unable to blog, but we’ve covered a lot this weekend! Friday we were invited to the US Embassy in the city of Managua, about an hour or so north of Granada. We got there in the morning and were able to do a little sightseeing before meeting the Defense Attache, COL Rodriguez. It was interesting and surprising hearing about the jobs of a Foreign Area...read more

By: Emeline Hood
After the first day of meetings and introductions we got straight to work. For the past two days our USMA + UConn team has been surveying this 2km long road leading into La Prusia. It is really amazing how much work we have gotten done so far considering no one from our team has surveyed a road with the equipment we are using before. It is a very meticulous job involving patience and precision. In laymen’s terms, we set up rods along the road which shoot lasers...read more

By: Emeline Hood
Today was our first full day in Granada after flying in and meeting up with our UConn counterparts last night. We realized we were all in for an experience, when we landed in what I would have called a torrential rain/lightning storm, but the locals all just shrugged their shoulders and told us that was just Nicaragua.

This morning, after breakfast we had a meeting with all the members...read more

By: Emeline Hood
Tomorrow we start our journey down to Nicaragua. Four of us cadets were selected to join a team from the University of Connecticut's chapter of Engineers Without Borders to venture down to Central America. This has been a project we've been working on for the better part of this past semester and the idea seems simple; come up with a technical assessment on how to fix a road that keeps flooding. However there are many more aspects going into this problem; for...read more
