One of the of the ties that keeps the US and South Korea together is its military bond. I've experienced this bond not only through the ROK ROTC homestay but also with the lessons in the Korean war that I've experienced through the tours of various memorials and museums. I learned the vital role that the US played in the Korean War while understanding that the war was a group effort. My experiences reinforced my knowlef\dge that the US presence in Korea is not an...read more

By: June Lee
Being a Korean American, I have grown up eating and loving Korean food. I've grown up on kimchi, rice, bulgogi, and other delicious foods. Despite me having grown up on traditional Korean foods, this trip has allowed me the pleasure of trying new foods that I never imagined I would eat. I tried live octopus, grilled clams, sea cucumbers, and silk worms. I feel more immersed in my own culture now than I have before. I have left my traditional safety zone and...read more

By: June Lee
Meeting the ROK ROTC cadets was an eye opening experience. I was not sure what to expect going into the event. What I encountered was very revealing. I feel like I grew stronger ties not only to my Korean counterparts but to the country as a whole. I grew to understand that despite the differences in curriculum and culture that we were very much alike. I particularly enjoyed the homestay portion of the event. I met one of the first females in the ROK ROTC program. She demonstrated that we...read more
