Teaching at West Point

By: Ramit Ring
One of the most rewarding experiences I've had as an Army officer with nearly fourteen years of service was teaching at the United States Military Academy (West Point). The two hours teaching and interacting with potential officers was the best part of the day, although not my entire duty day. What I find interesting is how focused most of my students were, not on being students, but on preparing to be leaders.

West Point is an academic challenge, and even high school...read more

By: Angel Alvarado
Todays Soldiers are more likely to be highly trained experts in combat operations. Most of these professionals receive a great deal of intrinsic satisfaction from their work serving others. Soldiers are the main weapon of today’s Army. They are the key to success in every mission to defeat the enemy at war. Their stamina does not come just from the food, recreation, training or water. It is comes from the desire to defend a nation and...read more

By: Edward Bouldin
On Saturday the 19th of November 2011, Army CPTs Edward Bouldin, Khadine Quashie, and D'angelo Lloyd representing the 5th Recruiting Brigade, Kansas City Army Recruiting Battalion, and Cadet Command respectfully presented a powerful leadership briefing to St. Louis based youths. The privilege of speaking to the youths was afforded to the officers through a partnership with the 100 Black Men of America (100 BMOA) and the US Army Assesions Command. The St. Louis chapter of the organization...read more

By: Bobby Burrus
I continue to serve my country for the following reasons; provide a better lifestyle for myself and the cultural experiences, educational benefits, and the opportunity to give back to my country. The military has provided me opportunities beyond my expectation as an Army Officer.

By: Julio Illas
Since my early childhood, I have always wanted to select a career that would give the privilege of making a positive contribution to society. The Army was without a doubt, the one career that offered me that opportunity to make a difference. By serving in the Army, I have been able to join the ranks of so many talented men and women that our nation has to offer. Together, we combine our efforts to provide our nation with the assurance that our way of life will prevail against all threats.
By: Robert Hayes
My first experience with terrorism occured over 20 years ago when I was a young Airman stationed in Korea. I was a bomb loader, and we all kind of knew each other. My neighbor in the dorms was a fellow loader, John Raven. His best friend, Curt Green, lived downstairs and often attended our rauncus parties. We used to engage in a weird ritual of what we called "pig piling", which was essentially tackiling someone, then having everyone jump on top. If you were on the bottom, you could...read more

By: D Welch
I am an Army officer with eleven years of service. The question has been asked: why do you serve? I must admit that my reasons for serving have changed over the years. As a cadet, I looked forward to becoming a lieutenant and leading a platoon. As a company commander, I anticipated the positive impact that I would have on my company’s mission accomplishment, professional development, and training. Today my focus has changed. The uncertain dynamics of the world test our national power...read more

By: Comaneci Walker
I find attending the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) very nurturing. The instructors here at CGSC are master experts with a wealth of knowledge on brigade and higher operational overviews. The course curriculum presented by instructors on topics of leadership, history and tactics has changed my way of thinking at the tactical and strategic level. The students which make up the staff group provide credible information and feedback on their branch operational overview. This allows...read more
