The Army Strong High School Football Coach of the Week Award was presented to University Academy Head Coach Damon Paul following the Gryphons 61-33 dismantling of O’Hara, a team which came into the October 1 match-up as the ninth-ranked team in Missouri Class 3A. Though most had considerable experience supporting search-and-rescue missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, local Soldiers quickly realized nothing could have prepared them for what they experienced while participating in the relief effort following the evening tornado that devastated the city of Joplin, Missouri May 22. Staff Sergeant John Grayson, an Army recruiter assigned to the Kansas City Recruiting Battalion, was one of a handful of local Soldiers who arrived first on the scene following...read more

With temperatures hovering in the low nineties and barely a cloud in the sky, Lt. Col. Ronald Tucker passed his two-year command of the U.S. Army’s Kansas City Recruiting Battalion and its seven subordinate recruiting companies to Lt. Col. Vernon Jakoby during a change of command ceremony at the Liberty Memorial June 7.

The memorial served as the perfect backdrop for the ceremony which was attended by several high ranking military officers and civilian dignitaries....read more

By: Richard Beckett
The sluggish economy has definitely had no impact on the pace of things here at the Kansas City Recruiting Battalion during the first three months of FY2011. We started the year with a major footprint at the Price Chopper 400 at the Kansas Speedway. The USREC CG, MG Donald Campbell, was a guest of the battalion so we were fully engaged. That same weekend we had another large footprint down in Pittsburg, KS at the football game between Pittsburg State and Southwest Missouri. Then….later...read more
