As with many Northeastern U.S. towns, Deep River, CT is no different in that they are home to a fife and drum corps. In fact, the Deep River’s Ancient Fife and Drum Corps hosts one of the Nation's largest fife and drum musters; an event that showcases the musical talents of fife and drum units from around the country. Continuing on our 50th Anniversary Muster Tour, the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps participated in this popular Connecticut event, reconnecting...read more

What Makes Us Army Strong - Those we Honor

By: Richard Ruddle
I posted a piece before on Our Army Strong and since then have found myself reflecting more and more on what really makes us strong. Although one might primarily think of strong as being defined as strength, I offer that there is much more that contributes to our Army's motto of "Army Strong", like perhaps the Army Values, for instance.

A good structure is only as sound as its foundation. In the same spirit, our Army is not only “Strong” because...read more

The United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps would like to congratulate the following three Soldiers who were recently promoted to Staff Sergeant. As the Corps celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, we are proud to add them to our legacy. These instrumentalists join a long lineage of those who keep the flame of early American music alive, bringing the traditions of the United States Army and our Nation to audiences throughout the world.

By: Richard Ruddle
Over the years Soldiers of The U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps have said above performing for huge audiences, dignitaries, or even the President of the United States, that performing for children is one of their most rewarding experiences.

The opportunity to share our love of music and the rich traditions of the Army is an extraordinary experience. What's more, is the joy and appreciation shown by an audience of young Americans that is unmatched in our performance and outreach...read more

By: Richard Ruddle
For the fifth year in a row The United States Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps opened their doors to young musicians from across the country interested in improving their craft of fife and drum music. Each October on Columbus Day weekend, students travel from near and far to historic Fort Myer Virginia to work side by side the musicians of the Fife and Drum Corps. They range in age from 10 to 20 years old and come from far away as Michigan. All have a keen interest in playing the fife,...read more
