Final PT

By: Spencer Heggers
Great job this year. Now that your ROTC commitments are over with make sure you use the extra time to focus on school work. Finals week is coming up and we all want to see everyone doing well on their exams. If you need any help make sure you let someone know; we still have tutoring available that goes heavily unused. Good luck and have a great break....read more

By: Spencer Heggers
Today we had open physical training which is a PT open to anyone willing to wake up before 6am and wanting to workout. We had an above average turnout (between 40 and 50 non ROTC cadets). Besides friends of cadets, a lot of people came after seeing the flyers or hearing it from the facebook group, including a handful of people from the reserve unit nearby. The workout was more entertaining than most PT sessions and equally hard. It consisted of stations: grass drills, relay races, litter...read more

By: Spencer Heggers
I just got back from my FTX last night, and it was fairly successful. No one could have hoped for better weather. 54 degrees in the middle of November? That's almost unheard of for New England. It was a little cold when the sun was down, but no one could really complain about that. We did TTB Ops, STX lanes, FLRC, and Land Navigation. I had difficulty on night land nav, but during the day I did it on my own for the first time and ended up with 6/8 points. I was pretty impressed with...read more

By: Spencer Heggers
I don't have any words of wisdom this week so I'll stick to filling you in on whats going on in our company.

This week we are in FTX preparation mode. Thursday will be our third PCI! I guess you kind of get used to the early mornings anyway. Not to mention not sleeping is particularly common at FTXs. The weather is supposed to be nice though, which will be a first for me (assuming it actually is nice). We leave Friday and won't be back until Sunday night. I'm working...read more

The Chain of Command and Staff Work

By: Spencer Heggers
In order to be a better staff member I need feedback. Without feedback on proposals submitted I have no idea if I'm providing my chain of command with what they need. Don't assume that because I'm confident, I've done the same or similar jobs before, that I'm right. I know that ROTC Upper Class and Cadre have a bunch of issues to deal with every day and can use their staff officers to work out the details and the thinking to provide them with finished...read more

Scholarship Benefits

By: Spencer Heggers
My first post is on my scholarship benefits and what they mean to me. Boston College is a very expensive school and without the scholarship I would have no chance of attending. The ROTC scholarship pays my entire tuition and gives me a book allowance that covers around half of the cost of my books as well as a stipend. Additionally Boston College pays for all cadets meal plans. The only thing I have to pay is the rest of my books and my room. While I do have student loans to help me pay for...read more

By: Spencer Heggers
I am a Boston College ROTC Bravo Company, Liberty Battalion cadet and I have been asked to do a blog on my daily experiences as a cadet. I am an MSII (sophomore) and am majoring in biology with a premedical track. Bravo Company does physical training on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays of every week, as well as leadership labs on Tuesdays. We also do a field training exercise once per semester....read more
