    By: Kenneth Plant

37 educators and influencers of America's youth finished thier first of a two day tour of Fort Benning. • Doc!

    July 29, 2010

    By: Major Chad Carroll

During my 16-plus years of service, virtually every Army medic with whom I have worked has been affectionately called "Doc." Once a medic earns that nickname, he or she has truly been accepted by Soldiers as someone they trust with their lives. However, one "Doc" here in the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood trumps them all. Staff Sergeant Zackary Filip, a medic currently assigned to 1st Cavalry Division, recently received the honor of the Army Times...read more

  • Clinic update part 2

    July 28, 2010

    By: Major Kendall Mower

You may have noticed I haven't put up as much about things we did in the clinic - it's because now that I'm there everyday I don't think as much about getting pictures of things that come along. Also it is because it seems like by the time I get patients seen and records written up - it's time to go. So here are some cases I saw last week - part 2. This patient had had a root canal done several years ago, but they began to experience pain and swelling...read more

  • Boston Scientific-Week 2

    July 28, 2010

    By: Cadet Elizabeth Kim

This summer I was given the amazing opportunity to be an intern in the sales department at Boston Scientific, a Fortune 500 company that produces medical devices. Along with fellow cadets Nick Qiu and Carlton Shelley, we were asked to help Boston Scientific with their educational initiative. After one whole week of sitting in on meetings and classroom sessions to really get to know the company and its product, we finally began our work. Our final production was to be a paper...read more

  • Day Twenty-Five - Being Brutally Honest

    July 27, 2010

    By: First Lieutenant Patrick Sandys

I decided that I would write for a second day in a row for two basic purposes; First, to talk about a subject I know more then just a couple people will be interested to read about (because I wish I had known more about it before I arrived at Ft. Lee) and two, to essentially vent. I know I don't get particularly personal in my blogs, with the exception of my feelings of pride, excitement, nervousness, etc... But today's blog will be less about the experience in general, and more about...read more

Since yesterday, three other cadets and I have been going through test rotations, where we test out different projects ICT has been working on for a while. So far, the tests involved interacting with virtual characters. The purpose of these tests is to obtain an evaluation and feedback from us to better improve the program that they have been working on. Yesterday's testing is called TACL (Technologies for Accelerated Continuous Learning. TACL is a newly developed program that keeps...read more

We are going into our final two weeks here at Google. It has been a great experience thus far. We have met many tremendous people and continue to learn about the future of technology and its applications in the military. We are making great head-way on our two projects and will present them at the end of next week with our managers and a few executive sponsors. Our project is to design a proposal to bring Google Apps back to West Point. Hopefully West Point...read more

  • A Reflection on military crises

    July 27, 2010

    By: Cadet Emily McCarthy

At the close of my two-week AIAD with the LAPD, which focused on the tenants of crisis negotiation, I noted that the most applicable training to myself as a future military officer was the suicide prevention training that all members of LAPD's Crisis Negotation Team underwent; I didn't expect hostage or barricade situations for which the Los Angeles Department trains ceaselessly to handle to arise in the type of setting that a Platoon Leader would ever work in. That view shifted...read more

  • Shadowing Update

    July 27, 2010

    By: Cadet Avinash Chaurasia

26 JUL 2010 John Cho, MD, Stephen Silvey, MD, Brian Cohee, MD ICU/Trauma Doctors I was fortunate enough to start a rotation in the ICU department, which is perhaps the most important department here at Landstuhl, as it treats the greatest number of severe combat injuries. I shadowed multiple doctors rather than just one, as certain patients were inactive while others underwent multiple surgeries. I first made the rounds with all the doctors as they discussed each patient’s...read more
